Kings of Swing

10/1/2016

Music and dance lovers “take note” (and forgive the pun)… They had a little break and now the Kings of Swing will be back this Tuesday, October 4th, at the Kent Senior Center playing favorites like In the Mood, Chattanooga Choo Choo and Sentimental Journey.
The Swing Era of the forties saw conductors like Benny Goodman and Cab Calloway playing for civilians in dance halls and ballrooms, and for soldiers in USO clubs. Patrons jumped to the Jitterbug and slowed for the Two-step.
And now all Arrowhead residents can leave the driving to one of our capable drivers and spend the evening just listening, or, listening and dancing to sounds of the Big Bands.

Some additional information:
--they truly are good musicians
--the music is well-amplified
--wheelchair and walker accessible; short walk to dance floor
--not all the kings are male--there is both a male and female band singer
--a lot of people dance, but many sit on the perimeter enjoying the music
--$3. cover charge also gets you a beverage and snack at intermission
--unable to find a partner, one woman danced alone
--one couple incorporated a support column into their dance
--they’ve never asked me to leave when I sing along
