The number of people experiencing homelessness in King County rose 9% between 2024 and 2026, according to a new point-in-time count released Tuesday. The latest count was conducted between Jan. 26 and Feb. 6.
- More than 11,800 people were living unsheltered this year — meaning they were on the street or in a place not designated for sleeping, such as a car or abandoned building.
- That's up from 9,810 unsheltered people who were counted two years ago — an increase of nearly 21%.

The West Seattle Hubs are hosting a series of learning sessions focused in emergency preparedness. Attend any or all of these events to be better prepared and to be ready to help your community after a disaster. |

Hub 101 Volunteer Training
Learn how an “Emergency Hub” works so you can quickly jump in and support your neighbors post-disaster. We’ll practice the basic roles and run thru “scripts” (situations we think our neighbors will come to the Hub with). It’s great fun and interactive. You’ll quickly grasp how everything works together and feel much more prepared to support your household – and your neighbors!
Two identical sessions, please sign up and tell us your nearest Hub so we can seat neighbors together.

Washington state is one of 6 states that will be part of a federal pilot project to require prior authorization for several medical procedures under Traditional Medicare, which currently does not require prior authorizations.
Trump wants to insert private AI companies between seniors on Medicare and their doctors—with prior authorization creating delays and denials in getting the care you need. This is an effort to cut Medicare benefits for seniors. I’ll be fighting to block this every way I can.

PSARA (Puget Sound Advocates for Retirement Action) has just launched a campaign to stop a RFK Jr. pilot project to allow another path to healthcare privatization called 'prior authorization into Traditional Medicare' and WA state is one of six states chosen for this “honor.”
We have until Jan. 1 2026 to stop it. The Trump/Kennedy administration plans to attack original Medicare beneficiaries in Washington with the WISeR pilot program. WISeR expands prior authorization in Original Medicare using artificial intelligence (AI) to decide if medical procedures recommended by your provider will be covered by Medicare. Private AI companies that contract with Medicare will profit more by denying care.
PSARA is doing outreach with our Federal electeds and talking with our Insurance Commissioner and others. Officers from PSARA will be sharing with our membership this important and informative work they are undertaking so we can learn more about what is coming out of the current administration's healthcare policies, how it will affect millions of Washingtonians, and what we can do to stop the potential devastation coming our way!
