Cary Moon (Seattle mayoral candidate) spoke to 40+ residents and answered their questions on such topics as the homeless, rising rents, transportation, and much more.

Cary Moon spoke for 6 minutes and then took questions from the residents.

Q&A:
  1. Question: What is your first priority as mayor? Response: A framework for coordination and housing affordability.  (Editor: See vision statement with PDF for download.)
  2. Question: Where can we find campaign donation information? Response was uncertain. Cary accepts no corporate donations. (Editor: Check here for campaign reporting)
  3. Question about Key Arena. Response was detailed. No public funding. Support local businesses. Protect jobs in industrial zone. Transportation addressed.
  4. Question about bike-lane financing and enforcement.
  5. Question about city department silos.
  6. Question about All Walk streets. 
  7. Question about fixed income and rising prices. (Off mic.)
  8. Comment about income tax not reducing sales tax.
  9. Question about safe consumption sites for drug users.
  10. Question about sub-populations of the homeless. Some are hustlers. Response covered low barrier shelters, various housing modes, and long term funding.
  11. Question about requiring bike licenses and insurance.
  12. Question about requiring bike safety training and helmets.
  13. Comment about bad transit service. Response outlined the needs for various modes of transportation.

  18. Question about homeless in cars and RVs. Response was to provide places for vehicles to park safely with services.
  19. Question about low barrier shelters. Response was to get people off streets and processed with shelters that are more inviting.
  20. Question and comments about homeless at 6th and Yessler; environment is in decline; if not sweeps then what? Response was sweeps only move the problem around. Provide more places to get people inside. Compared conditions to Hooverville.
  21. Question about low barrier shelters allowing alcohol and drugs.
  22. Question/comment about public health hazards of unsanctioned camps in water sheds. Risk of cholera and other diseases spreading.
  23. Question about housing timeline.
  24. Question/comment about public drug crimes. Response described program to get people into treatment with police assistance.

In closing, Cary invited people to partner with city officials and to volunteer their time on public projects.
