TECHNICAL NOTES ON SOUND QUALITY
   Although the two wireless PA systems come with a total of four microphones, only two microphones on different frequencies can operate at the same time.
   
   When mic runners use two microphones with the same frequency, in order to cover the audience, only one mic can be turned on at any time.

   Due to miscommunication and poor microphone techniques, the audio file had to be edited extensively to boost or lower volumes and to remove excessive noises from mic handling and squeals. Microphones (with rubber bands) on the same frequency were turned on simultaneously causing loud squeals.

   The guest officer with Ofc. Todd Wiebke, O'Neil, declined to use a microphone and at one point, Ofc Wiebke's mic was taken away from him. Those two factors drastically lowered sound quality.

   When I raised the amplitude for off-mic speakers, it caused on-mic speaker amplitude to jump way up. I then had to lower on-mic levels in post-production.

   We Need To Get All Speakers On Mic!  No Recordings From A Distance.

REMINDERS AND LESSONS LEARNED: 
1. Mic runners should not turn on two microphones on the same frequency at the same time.
2. Mic runners should turn off mics when not in use to avoid handling noises and to reduce risk of two mics being turned on using the same frequency.
3. Mic runners should not take a microphone away from a guest speaker with the assumption that they can be recorded from several feet away.
4. Show audiences how to use a microphone. 
5. Do sound checks before introductions.
6. Start recording before introductions start.

Technical notes on sound quality
Due to sound quality issues, this podcast will not be syndicated.

Production Equipment: 
A wireless HiSonic HS-700 PA system was used to record 2 wireless microphones onto a USB thumb drive.  Using the USB thumb drive prevented monitoring recording levels. Ms Durkan's wireless lapel microphone had a weak recording level that had to be boosted in post-production causing elevated white noise. Residents used a handheld microphone that had an adequate recording level. Another sound quality issue was presence of a noticeable echo, which might be a room issue.

Post-production:
Audacity editor software was used on a Linux ​laptop computer to trim 'dead air' and to boost the record level for Ms. Durkan. Final sound quality was audible, but sub-standard for regular podcasts. The MP3 file was split into 3 files due to a Google file-size restriction for virus scans.  Noise reduction was not attempted.

​Lesson Learned:
Bring a cable with an RCA male and TRS 3.5mm phone plug to feed PA speaker Aux Out to a Zoom H6 digital recorder.  Testing will be performed before the next live recording using the HS-700 auxilary output to a digital recorder. The digital recorder has a graphic meter that displays recording levels. Optimum peak levels are -12db to -6db.  Both wireless microphones should have a sound check before the scheduled program begins to make sure they are performing correctly.

Judi's Introduction:

The Author teas were the brain storm of Barbara Howett who wrote “Ladies of the Borobudur”, collecting stories of the wives of men working in Jakarta using the voice of a woman singing in the place where they lived, the Borobudur.   As I got ready for telling of my life starting over again and again, I asked women at Arrowhead what they had done in their lives.  What I realized is that we at Arrowhead could write a very interesting book about “The Ladies of Arrowhead.”  (And men, of course.)

I mentioned to Laura that my Toastmaster Icebreaker speech so many years ago was titled “Life begins Again and Again.”  She asked me to be the speaker at the September 10th Sunday tea.  I said yes.  And I intended to also ask people in the audience to share with each other answers about their lives.  And that’s what I did.
