My name is Jackie Terrell and I am running for AGRC Treasurer. I have lived here since 2010 and was active in the creation of AGRC. I opened its first bank account when the previous Treasurer, Corrine Andrews, and I got worried about keeping what little money we had in our sock drawer.
My financial experience includes 5 years as the On-Site Manager of a Public Storage facility of 1,400 units that generated between $75 and $80 thousand dollars per month. Because I was the only African-American manager within the then-New-York-to-Detroit district, my accounts were audited constantly. Without exception, during my 5 years, the audit of my accounts was accurate to the penny, literally. I have the demonstrated experience and skill to handle the AGRC accounts.
I am running for Treasurer because I am concerned about the lack of transparency. We are unable to determine the accuracy of the current Treasurer’s handwritten reports. Recently, a long-overdue audit was finally conducted and the Treasurer, not the Audit Committee chairperson, reported the findings verbally. There was no supporting information from the Audit Committee, whose credentials were never shared with the membership.
I recently distributed a detailed discussion of what specific problems I see and how I propose to correct them. Thank you for taking the time to consider the material I have shared. I ask for your vote as Treasurer so I can resolve these serious shortcomings.
